It’s true – trees get sick.

But the good news is that a sick tree suffering from some form of minor ailment can be treated just as easily as treating the common cold people get. However, the bad news is that a tree suffering from a more complicated ailment makes saving it nearly impossible for the average homeowner.

Several factors including old age, storm damage and environmental conditions can all too unfortunately cause a young or old tree to become severely damaged or even die prematurely. Whether a damaged, dying or sick tree should be cut down and permanently removed depends on what the tree doctor recommends.

Safety First
The most pressing reason to have a tree removal, regardless of its age or species, is because it poses significant safety risks to both you and the ones you care about. If structural defects have the potential to cause the tree to fall; then the tree will need to be removed immediately.

If 50 percent or more of the tree is damaged, or dying due to some serious infection, it’s probably in your best interest to have it eliminated. While a tree in decline can continue to survive for several years before posing significant risks, its aesthetic value will be minimized.
